The numbers provided on our CyberStart America leaderboard are to show which states are the most engaged with the CyberStart America program, both in absolute numbers and in percentage increases, week-on-week and year-on-year.

Although CyberStart America is a brand new program, it has many similarities with the girls-only pilot program, Girls Go CyberStart, which ran from 2018-2020. The "previous year" figures stated here are drawn from the 2020 Girls Go CyberStart registrations.

Below is an explanation of the data contained in each column.

State

The US state or territory that participants have stated on their registration form.

Registered students

The number of individual students who have completed the registration form for CyberStart America.

Registered students per million

The number of students registered, adjusted relative to the population of their state. This allows fairer comparison of program uptake state by state.

Student registration weekly change

The percentage increase of students registered compared to the numbers registered one week previously.

Student registration annual change

The percentage increase of students currently registered, compared with total students registered in that state by the end of the 2020 Girls Go CyberStart program. The numbers in this column will mostly be negative in the early part of the registration cycle, and will be a better point of comparison later in the year.

Registered schools

The number of individual schools in that state listed by participants on their registration form.

Schools registered weekly change

The percentage increase in number of schools registered, compared to the numbers registered one week previously.

Schools registered compared to total in 2020

The difference (in absolute numbers, rather than percentage) between the number of schools currently registered, compared with total number of schools registered in that state by the end of the 2020 Girls Go CyberStart program. The numbers in this column will mostly be negative in the early part of the registration cycle, and will be a better point of comparison later in the year.

Number of registered students who have reached the threshold in CyberStart Game that qualifies them to take part in the National Cyber Scholarship Competition (20% Game completion).

Percentage of students qualified

Percentage of students currently registered for the CyberStart America program who have reached the qualifying threshold for the National Cyber Scholarship Competition.

Qualified students weekly change

Percentage increase in the number of registered students who have reached the qualifying threshold for the National Cyber Scholarship Competition, compared to the numbers qualified one week previously.
